A five-day journey on foot across Abruzzo in central Italy, exploring the spectacular Campo Imperatore plateau—epic landscapes, medieval castles and crumbling monasteries, rich grasslands and craggy peaks, sampling the region’s celebrated wines and superb shepherd’s cheeses along the way.

Itinerary
Day 1/ Arrival in Abruzzo
Arrival in Abruzzo. Dinner and overnight in Barisciano.
Day 2/ Santo Stefano di Sessanio
Morning walk to Santo Stefano di Sessanio where we check into Sextantio Hotel—our base for the next four nights. Late afternoon stroll to Rocca Calascio.
Day 3/ Santa Maria del Monte
Circular walk from Santo Stefano to the ruins of Santa Maria del Monte monastery where we have a picnic lunch.
Day 4/ Monte Camicia
From Fonte Vetica today’s optional walk ascends to the summit of Monte Camicia (2,560 meters above sea level). Packed lunch on the summit.
Day 5/ Castel del Monte
Morning transfer to Scoppaturo, the start point of our walk traversing the flanks of Monte Bolza, and then descending to the town of Castel del Monte.
Day 6/ Departure
Departure and onward travel.
